In 1925, Morehei Ueshiba, a professional martial artist, developed Aikido. This art intends to fuse the physical and spiritual life to philosophical growth. Japan recognized the art of Aikido in the year 1941. Morehei sensei established a dojo that teaches this method of art. After that, the art spread among the western countries. In 1953, France adapted the method of Aikido and they have established several training schools for Aikido. Later on, America and Germany also recognized the art of Aikido. Ueshiba's son and grandson continued to share the methods and teachings of Aikido even after his death. During those days, several students and practitioners have help spread the teachings of Aikido.

This method of this art can temporarily injure your opponent and halt his attack. This art do not intend to kill your opponent only to stop them using their own physical strength. There are several techniques which can be learnt through practicing aikido. Aikido means the art of peace. There are 20 basic techniques which fuses several combinations. The techniques include body throws and holds that can be executed depending on your opponents force and movements.


Aikido uses the attack of atemis which targets the pressure points of the body. When these pressure points are hit it can cause a severe pain and temporary immobilization. Discipline is very important in learning aikido. Every student is responsible to where he uses the technique, because aikido techniques may cause death to its target. This art aims to create a complete distraction to your opponent. Generally this is created to temporarily disarm your attacker, not to kill him.

Without a doubt, Aikido is a very effective self defense and martial art. If you manage to learn this martial art, you will have a greater chance to take down and immobilized your attacker. Even if your attack is larger than you are.
