The Art Of Wearing Casual Trousers

We have all heard of the classic nightmare: you are at school or perhaps work

. You are due to give a speech of some significance to a huge number of your peers, teachers, bosses or clients. You stand at the front of the room, take a deep breath in... and out...and realise... you are not wearing any Trousers. The room bursts into cruel laughter and you wake up in a cold sweat.

Luckily, this is just a clichd dream sequence that appears in films and TV series. However, it does raise an interesting insight into the human psyche and shows the importance of one item of clothing that can literally make or break you.

Trousers. Casual Trousers, smart Trousers, jeans, chinos. The range is endless, but the item remains the same. And as the winter months approach I can guarantee that they will be forming a larger part of your everyday wardrobe selections. Whether off to work, going on a night into town, watching a film or just popping to the shops, its crucial that you have a good selection of men"s Trousers tucked away somewhere for the occasion.

Some of us get caught in a cycle however. We become too comfortable in a pair of jeans or some men"s chinos to the extent that they are all we wear. This allows you to become defined by the pair of Trousers, so it is important that you a) do not let this happen by rotating the type, colour and style or Trouser you wear, or b) accessorise or modify that pair of Trousers so that they give off a different look and feel every time you wear them. It is also important to think of suitability whenever deciding on what type of men"s trouser to wear:

Should you wear jeans to work? The answer to this depends upon the place of work and the environment within the company. Some jobs based in media, digital and other "younger" industries will allow you to wear jeans and other casual Trousers around, to and from the office. However some of the "older" industries like banking, financial, law and even governmental roles will require you to wear a more professional Trouser, however a good pair of mens chinos or even an expensive pair of jeans for men could be permitted on "dress down" days (usually on a Friday when more casual attire is permitted).

What is best to wear on a long drive? When on long journeys, be it by road, sea or air, it is amazing how uncomfortable you can become in a very quick amount of time. The need to stretch your legs can become unbearable, so the need for a pair of casual trousers is great here. A nice pair of casual chinos, some comfy jeans or even jogging bottoms would be ideal.

I"m going to Uni, what should I wear to my first lecture? This completely depends upon the person you are, or want to be. Universities are generally very open to casual attire at all events unless stated. Lectures are particularly good for wearing what you are comfortable in, so feel free to go wild! Perhaps a pair of coral casual chinos? Or some jeans for men? The choice is yours. Go wild and enjoy the freedom.

Overall there are no right or wrong answers, you have to wear what you deem appropriate and more importantly what you feel comfortable wearing. Jeans and casual trousers will always have a place in anybodies wardrobe, so never allow yourself to get caught out in a nightmare situation again!
