The solution for this is to wash the carpet gently with mild detergents and then place it under the fan instead of utilizing the sunlight. It would make it dry faster and secondly not to use too much of water otherwise the carpet will generate nasty odor of its own. Now these are household procedures to clean the carpets and they pay off well.
