The Art of Thankfulness

With Thanksgiving approaching, I assumed it would be especially applicable to debate a defining characteristic of successful individuals that I've met worldwide. I've found that successful and joyous individuals are sometimes very skilled at counting their blessings. They focus on what's right regarding their life rather than what is wrong.

Why is that this important?

It goes back to the incredibly easy however undeniably profound thought expressed in Earl Nightingale's great album The Strangest Secret. He said that "you become what you think that about all day long." If you're thinking that regarding that, you may understand it's true- the dominant thoughts that live in your mind will positively manifest themselves in your life.

Nightingale was certainly not the primary or the sole one to categorical this thought, either. It's been mirrored in most of the nice wisdom literature throughout the ages. The Book of Proverbs says "as a person thinketh in his heart, therefore is he." William James, the daddy of 20th century Yankee psychology said that "if you modify an individual's thoughts you change their Life". There are countless quotes and examples that tell us the same factor- the things we tend to dwell on mentally are what we tend to attract into our lives. Therefore when you learn to consciously concentrate on the items you are thankful for,

you get a lot of of them! Therefore how will we systematically direct our thoughts to these sorts of things? I've got three tips for you:

1) Write out a "gratitude list". Sit down with your family or some friends and simply produce an inventory of things in life that you're thankful for. Don't rule anything out, massive or small.

Even if it looks silly, place it on the list. Just this easy act will do wonders for your attitude. It is a nice Thanksgiving activity, and you can have a look at it later for an instantaneous gratitude boost.

2) Watch your self talk. Your brain is talking to you 24/seven, therefore monitor and exercise some influence over what it's saying.

Particularly initial issue in the morning, once you tell yourself "This can be gonna be a great day!" it has a right away and profound result on your mindset. If you need a little reminder, refer back to your gratitude list.three) Do something nice for somebody else. Abraham Lincoln said that "It's not possible to raise the burden of another while not conjointly lifting your own." Therefore move out of your way to try to to somebody a favor- even a small one. Send a card to a co- worker, open a door for a stranger, pay the highway toll for the lady behind you. Anything of that nature. The smile you get in return will remind you of the items that are nice regarding people.

Above all, remember what Thanksgiving is very all about- giving thanks. When you specialise in the items you're thankful for, you attract more of them into your Life. Strive it out, and...
