The Audi Life Story.

The Audi name began life as a private company

, founded in Germany in 1909. The word Audi deriving itself from the German word for listen! Before World War II, the company merged with three other associated companies to form Auto Union the reason why the company uses the four-interlinked rings as its logo. The Audi cars of the early 20th century era were considered very luxurious, equipped with special bodywork.

During the war, the Auto Union plants in Germany were retooled for military production and were subjected to heavy bombing, leaving them severely damaged by the end. It was not until 1949 that a former Audi factory in Germany restarted assembly of the pre-war models.

Moving further on to 1964, the Auto Union trademark was acquired by the Volkswagen Group, which six years later saw the emergence of the Audi as a separate brand something which had not happened since before the war. It was at this time that the Audi was first introduced to the western world.

In recent times, the Audi has claimed and maintained several world records such as Top Speed Endurance, an effort in-line with the companys heritage from the 1930s racing era Silver Arrows.

Currently, Audi sales in the UK are strong, as they prove to increase in popularity year after year with the release of new models. As such, dealerships are frequent throughout the country. The local Audi Basingstoke for example showcases the Q7 a new model which features a coup-like roof line and streamlined rear spoiler.
