The Aviation Age
With its maiden flight from Pakistan (Karachi) to India (New Delhi)
, the Indian aviation industry started its operations in 1912. Since then, millions of flights from India have adorned the skies and mastered the art of flying. Statistics of 2009 show India as an emerging aviation giant. Moreover, refurbishing of airport standards and a boom in economy has seen many international flights from India taking off. In 2010, more than 80, 00,000 passengers boarded domestic flights as compared to 65, 00,000 in 2009. As a result, domestic flights from India are catering to 18.5% more customers every year and this certainly adds on to India's GDP. Initiation of private airlines began in 1932 when the TATA group of industries earned their A-License and later the Tata Airlines was renovated to Air India. Private airlines operates 24x7 and with a total of more than 150 domestic and international flights from India daily, they connect remotest Indian territories and major international destinations world over. International players like Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Lufthansa, Air France, Emirates, Thai, Air China, etc. contributes to more than half of the international flights from India.
For world class facilities and A' level service on flights from India, Indian airliners have won accolades such as The 21st Annual Freddie Awards' in Asia-Pacific region and The Best Low Fare Airline Recognitions' for cheap fares and attractive offers granted on every flight. By 2020, huge investment opportunities of up to US$100 billion are envisaged for building airport infrastructure and inception of new aircrafts. In addition to all this, a dozen new international flights from India would take off eyeing mammoth profit margins in the post Commonwealth period in India. If not overnight, the Indian aviation industry has swollen and touched admirable heights at its own pace. Once isolated and with nominal number of flights from India, the Indian skies now play host to renowned international airliners adding to an ever so busy air traffic. Future of Indian aviation is secured as now aviation schools laden with international standard equipments groom budding pilots and technicians. Therefore, an Indian hope of being a world leader in aviation is soaring sky high!'
