The Basics Of Hazwoper Training Programs
There are 24-hour and 40-hour courses available as well as an 8-hour refresher course for those who need to renew their certification
.
The 40-hour training course is a requirement for any employee working on a project that consists of uncontrolled hazardous waste operation that has been mandated by the government. This course was expressly made up for people involved in the treatment, disposal, and storage of hazardous substances, emergency response operations, clean-up proceedings, or those working at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Included in the course are topics such as OSHA regulations, safety of the environment and workers, and how to eliminate and protect oneself against hazardous chemicals. To pass the course participants must score no less than 70 on any given quiz, and must also score at least a 70 on the final exam, which can be taken up to three times, to receive their certification.
Employees visiting any uncontrolled hazardous waste operation mandated by the government must complete a 24-hour training course. It will cover a number of issues that pertain to hazard recognition at work sites. The course will not only identify particular kinds of hazards, but also presents protective measures and precautions that can help eliminate work place hazards. A minimum score of 70 is also required on all quizzes and exams in order to receive a certification.
The HAZWOPER 8-hour refresher course is required by OSHA to be completed yearly by anyone working at a hazardous waste site. There is a wide range of topics covered in the course including:
*Respiratory Equipment
*HAZWOPER regulations
*Personal protective equipment
*Health and safety plans
*Decontamination
*Hazardous chemicals
*Site control
*Safety Hazards
*Medical surveillance
*Air monitoring
New features of the refresher course also include a study guide, updated content that reflects any new OSHA requirements, up-to-date images, and quiz questions that have been revised. The requirements of passing the course are the same as all other courses. Only those that have passed either the 40-hour or 24-hour course are permitted to take the refresher course.
When working with these kinds of harmful materials, these courses play an important role in not only the safety of workers but the safety of others.
