Your home system is connected to a main water supply valve that you can shut off especially when needed (Note: it is necessary to shut the main valve off to prevent flooding your home in case a pipe breaks during plumbing glitches). Water passes through this valve and travels though the pipes and unto different places like the faucet, the shower or the toilet. This is the cold water supply.

The hot water supply requires another step however. From the main water supply, water passes through a water heater and then runs to the outlets that require hot water. The average water temperature ranges from 120 degrees to 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Aside from the water coming into your house, the drainage system is a vital part of your home plumbing system. If pressure allows water to run around the pipes of your home, in your drainage system, gravity is the king. Drainage pipes are naturally angled downwards so that waste water can escape easily. The drainage system is also referred to as the Drain-Waste-Vent system. The three components of this system must work in synch so that water can exit freely from your home.

The most common plumbing problem at home is leaks. The smallest of leaks could ruin your home by flooding it. The first thing to remember is shutting off the main water supply. Then you must locate where exactly the leak is and decide whether you have to simply seal the leak or to replace the specific pipe.
