The Beaches Of St. George Island

Have you walked the beaches of St. George Island? It's a very spectacular place for a casual stroll that will open your eyes to various pleasures absolutely unique in this place. Life near the Apalchicola Bay is different and it offers a new kind of experience and surprises for the newcomer. Likewise, the Gulf of Mexico provides a good ground for fishing trips using chartered boats on any fair weather day.

You get to see the thrilling sunrise and the vivid sunsets when you are in this place. With not high rises to obstruct the horizon, you are always caught up in pleasant surprises as long as you are here. At night, you can stay up and watch the multitude of stars on a clear sky. These are only some of the great things you can do at this little island in Florida's panhandle.

During mornings, you can visit the beaches and literally witness the shore full of shells that have been washed by the tide. For the shell collector, beach combing and shelling is no match for other activities. You can find scallops, conches, boat shells, cockles, oysters and many other beautiful varieties. Get pen shells, fig shells, lightning whelks and baby's ears when you are lucky though it's only rare to find these types. When a storm has passed, you might be in luck when you come across a tulip shell or a murex among the litter.

You can also find a coquina if your eyes are sharp enough to detect this rainbow colored bivalve in the heap. Usually, they can be found in the tide line, just after the tide has receded. They can also get buried in the sand when you are not quick enough to spot it. When you can pick up, it will be a great ornament when embellished with additional materials like ribbons.

There are mole crabs in the sand that can be seen. These are crustaceans that inhabit the sand tunnels they make.

Other times, you will find sponges on the shore. If you want to take one home, it might smell awful after how many days. So be careful when handling sponges. Sand dollars are plentiful in St. George Island as well. In some days, you will find dolphins gracing the waters and take care of their little ones. Birds can also be seen in the shores of St. George Island. Be on the lookout for sandpipers and gulls because if you are fishing, you might lose your prize to an occasional sandpiper.

There are plenty of things to do while on the beaches of St. George Island. Come to this location soon!
