. The Kanha National Park is famous for the swamp deer and is referred to lovingly as the gem of Kanha. This tiger reserve has many seasoned tourists visiting the area as often as possible to spot the beautiful animal. The park was designated a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1993 and upgraded to National Park status in the year 1995. The overall area of the Kanha Park is about 2000 square kilometers and has been awarded with the title of the friendliest national park in India. The shape of the park is in a figure eight.

The best time to visit the national park starts from mid October through June. Wildlife photo enthusiasts can grab a camera and click away during the months of February through April. These are the best months for photography in the reserve. It is during this time of the year when the forest area boasts of lush vegetation. Animals invariably make their presence known and catching a glimpse of the spotted deer, boar, bear and an occasional tiger is commonplace. The birds that are a part of Kanha National Park are the bush lark, parakeet, spotted duck, bulbul, myna and many more pretty varieties. For the ardent reptile enthusiast, the rainy season is the ideal time to catch them in their natural environ.

While visiting the area one can check out other places of interest like the Kanha meadows where tigers invariably make their presence felt. Shravan Tal is a small little pool that provides the animals with water to quench their thirst. A highland that offers a breathtaking view of the forest in all its glory is evident in the Bamni Dadar. The place is famous for the barking deer, the bison and the spotted deer.

The deer are very shy and may slip away so when visiting the terrain keeping the camera on alert would be the best way to grab some mementos.

Enjoying a safari in the Kanha national park would be on the elephant ride. This is called the tiger show program where trackers travel the length of the forest on elephants to get an idea as to where the tigers can be sighted. This is a paid service where three people plus the forest tracker accompanies the tour that goes on for about ten to fifteen minutes. Most of the fees are paid to the forest department. If the idea of a safari grabs one's fancy making a booking well in advance would be the ideal way for sightseeing and photography. There are people however who do not enjoy the wildlife tours and it would be in their interest if they do not accompany ardent enthusiasts.
