Many of us have very stressful and busy lives. We often find it hard to cope with the frustrations on a day to day basis. The sources of your stress may be different than your neighbors but ultimately need to be handled appropriately. Going on a walk is a great way to clear your mind and to get some fresh air.

Life can be very difficult. Many suffer from depression. Others cannot handle their cultural expectations. Some simply despise their life and the choices they've made. In those moments of great despair, possibly the best thing you could do is to stop whatever it is you are doing and to take a walk. A walk is very different than the use of a treadmill or even exercising. The difference is what your focus is on. When you go on a walk you are saying to the world that this time is your time and you can think and do whatever you want. When you exercise you feel the need to push yourself and you focus all your energy in finishing your goal.

Walking in a park or on a street will still provide you with a light physical exercise, but just being outside in the fresh air can carry you miles. Have you ever felt the inner need to leave the house even if it is do yard work? We often have an unexplainable longing to be outdoors and to experience nature. This act alone will help you find joy and meaning in life. On those especially difficult days is when a walk is needed most. When life hands you trial after trial you need some time to think about how you are going to handle it. This is a time to realize where you are, what you are doing and where you need to be.

Sometimes it can be beneficial to go on walks with your spouse or a parent. This is a great time to just chat about your day and to help build those personal relationships that are often set to one side. I see couples I know out on the streets every day just walking down the road. I know that the time they are together is a chance for them to talk and to leave the worries of their lives at home, even if it is for only a couple of minutes.
