Massage is a very popular therapy. This isn't surprising when we live in a society that is overworked and overstressed. It has been known for centuries the benefit of massage but only recently has science shed light on the positive effects massage can have on our health.
One of the most important things that massage can do is relieve stress. It can help you relax and feel relaxed. This is something many people struggle with so having massage to aid in relaxation is great. Work worries, work stress, financial worries and stress can all make it difficult to relax. Massage can be an effective short term solution to this and will help melt your problems away.
Massage can also help alleviate pain and tension in your body. Many people suffer from constantly tense muscles as a result of poor posture, which isn't surprising when most of us sit in front of a computer all day long. Massage can help relieve these tense muscles for a short period of time, but to completely eradicate the problem a massage that helps align posture is more effective i.e. something like rolfing.
Massage can also reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and decrease recovery time from sports and injuries. Alleviating tension, it can make you feel more awake. You will also find a reduction in anxiety, improved immune system and it can also help pregnant women.
Massage therapy has been shown to be great for a number of different conditions including arthritis, anxiety, back pain, chronic pain, acute pain, digestive disorders, depression, circulatory issues, headaches, sleep disorders, stress and many more. As a result massage is a great complementary therapy for anyone experiencing agonizing conditions.
However massage therapy on a regular basis can be costly. There are some ways to get around this and many physiotherapists will offer advice on what home electric massagers you can buy to suit your particular needs. These are much cheaper than massage therapies but can work just as well.
Whatever you decide to do, don't rule massage out as a potential therapy.
