Be sure to maintain your awnings so they will last for you and keep their color. The retractable type needs to be cleaned with just water once a month. Do not use any detergents that can cause fading. Allow it to completely dry before putting back to keep mold from growing. The fixed type will need to be swept of debris and snow regularly. They will need to be washed thoroughly once or twice a year since they are not protected. Rinse them monthly as well.

You can clean up mildew if it has formed on your awning. Use mildew cleaner and a stiff brush to scrub it off. Thoroughly rinse it and allow it to dry completely. Bleach is not an option for an awning. It can damage the material especially if it isn't properly rinsed. It can also cause discoloration.

Patio awnings are a great way to extend another room to your home and provide more space for your family. Sit out their for meals and games. Or you can just lounge and enjoy the warm weather without baking in the sun, unless you just want to. They are easy to maintain and make your home even more beautiful.
