. Those barristers who are able to perform this duty are called direct access barristers. Through the direct access scheme it is possible for one to save money on court costs.
One benefit of using a direct access barrister include that it enables you to get legal advice from a barrister directly without employing a solicitor. You only have to pay the barrister and you will get direct access to specialist legal advice and advocates.
With the help of a direct access barrister you can do the work of a solicitor - you can save the cost of paying money to a solicitor for work which you can do yourself. If the service of a solicitor is needed, then the barrister will advise you. This means you only instruct a barrister when you need to have one. If necessary the barrister will recommend you a solicitor which you can trust. A direct access barrister cannot demand payment for such a recommendation.
A direct access barrister can give advice on disputes of any area- legal, family, criminal etc. Barristers can write letters for you and these can be on the chamber's headed paper (although there are also specific rules on what the barrister can and cannot write for you).
Barristers are not allowed to handle or receive any money from the client other than their fee. This means barristers are not permitted to hold any money on behalf of any party, and this increases transparency.
The use of a direct access barrister generally reduces costs, due to an expedited legal process. Dealing directly with a barrister can save time and money. It increases court transparency and lowers chance for corruption and bias, and for most clients is a prudent choice.
