. It is great news for travellers, who have always wanted to visit the exotic East and now be it Cambodia or Vietnam or Laos travel, the doors have opened to tourism.
Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh city used to be the capital of Vietnam and is still the largest city of the country and the hub of its trade and commerce. The city had been colonized by the French and evidence of their colonial rule can still be seen in beautiful French style architecture. The classical French villas and buildings are well-preserved and have become tourist attractions in their own right.
Vietnam Saigon has some marvellous structures like the Reunification Palace, Ho Chi Minh City Hall, City Post Office, Municipal Theatre and the State Bank Office which tourists enjoy visiting. Heritage hotels like the Rex, Caravelle and Majestic stand testimony to the grace and elegance of French architecture. The museum lover will not be disappointed as the city has many museums to offer; the War Remnants Museum, Museum of Vietnamese History and the Ho Chi Minh City Museum are some places to catch a glimpse of the citys historical past. The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a delightful place to while away an afternoon. The Suoi Tien Amusement and Tradition Park, the Dam Sen Tourist and National Park and the Can Gio Eco Beach Resort are other popular attractions in the city.
Saigon is a vibrant and pulsating city and your senses will feel overwhelmed by all the sights, sounds and smells of the place. There are streets full of food stalls, goods stalls and people bustling and hustling and motorbikes speeding away; the energy generated is incredible. Markets sell almost everything and you can pick up some lovely souvenirs like woven or carved hand crafted items. There are also plenty of malls to keep the brand conscious happy. Street food in Vietnam is unbelievably good and you can have seafood which is just fresh off the sea cooked right in front of you. Alongside lavish hotels and malls, there are plenty of small cafes where you can sit and relax.
Being the centre of the film industry of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh has plenty of cinemas and theatres to keep you occupied. It also has a vibrant nightlife for the partygoers and you can strut out in the night to partake of some exciting clubbing.
Weather-wise, Saigon is at its best during December when the weather is dry and pleasant. Although regular public transport is plentiful, while in Saigon do take a ride in its quaint Xichlos or Cyclo which is a sort of a man-powered carriage with a single seat and two wheels.
Although Vietnam does conjure up images of rice fields and jungles it has its fair share of vibrant cities of which Vietnam Saigon is brilliant and deservedly at the forefront.
