. The ideal nose is a nose that does not draw attention away from an individuals other facial features, but instead is inconspicuous and proportional. However, there are some individuals who are unhappy with the way their nose looks and decide to undergo a cosmetic operation called a rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a medical term for surgical manipulating the nose to achieve a more desirable shape or to improve the breathing capabilities of the individual.
A standard rhinoplasty consists of two basic techniques: a closed rhinoplasty and an open rhinoplasty. In a closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made between the nostrils at the columnella and skin is then lifted up exposing the inner structure area of the nose. Although there are some incisions made on the outside of the nose, these scars should fade and become almost unnoticeable with time. It is done to improve the form and function of the nose that has been previously operated on. A revision rhinoplasty often comes will less bruising and pain but tends to take longer to perform. However, there will still be swelling and bruising and depending on the technique used some scarring. This should all completely fade within the first year or less.
As with any surgery, there are complications and risks involved with the procedure. Therefore it is of the utmost importance that the patient finds a surgeon they trust and are comfortable with. The surgeon should be qualified and have extensive experience in the procedure in question. Cosmetic surgery does have many benefits but undergoing a rhinoplasty is a major decision and should not be taken lightly.
