The Best Swimming Holes On The Sunshine Coast

Australia's Sunshine Coast has the reputation for beautiful beaches

, certainly Main Beach, Alexandria Noosa and Sunshine are the areas most well known and popular. But a traveler has the chance to make choices of some other locations that might fit their requirements better. Some of these have patrols but some do not, so if you have a large group or children it may be safer to choose one of the patrolled beaches.

Currumundi Lake is one such beach area that is perfect for families with little ones. This patrolled area provides a nice safe place to spend the day. The swimming is not only fabulous but there are other things to do on Currumundi Lake as well like fishing, which can be fun especially in the early morning hours and later in the day when there aren't as many people around.

Shelly Beach may not be for swimming or surfing as it is an unprotected beach, however, it does have a lot to offer local fisherman looking for that once in a lifetime catch. It is specifically known for its extremely low swell which lends itself to some highly incredible fishing experiences and with BBQ and bathroom facilities you will find that this is an excellent place to stop and drop a line, almost everyone will go home having caught something.

Dicky Beach is a popular, patrolled beach that offers fun for the whole family. The waves sit off the beach a little making it a good place for those who wish to try their hand at some body boarding but more experienced surfers will probably want to make their way out to Caloundra Reef where the waves are bigger and heavier, providing a bit more of a challenge. Fisherman are welcome to come and drop a line although fishing at Dicky Beach is a little more inconsistent than at many of the areas other beaches.

This is only a small sample of the fantastic beaches available in the Sunshine Coast region. Remember that you will be swimming at your own risk if the area is not patrolled, make sure to never swim by yourself. Some of these swim areas have a stronger surf than others so visitors should take that into consideration is a unpatrolled area is chosen.
