Ive been on many diet plans that encouraged me to spend 1-2 hours a day at the gym engaged in cardiovascular exercise. Who would have guessed that such an approach was wrong? After all, cardio workouts help strengthen the heart, burn calories and help you lower your bad cholesterol levels while elevating good cholesterol.

Unfortunately, they also teach your body tolerance, a condition where your body will start to horde fat for energy needed for endurance workouts later on.

The best exercise for someone trying to lose fat is high intensity, short duration workouts. Every session should include some resistance training and a small amount of explosive heart acceleration. The entire workout, from start to finish should not take more than about 30 minutes. Additionally, working out 3-4 times a week is more than enough.

What is the Right Way to Eat?

There are several factors involved in eating properly if you want to burn fat. First, you need to eat healthy foods that allow your body to focus on digestion and increasing metabolic efficiency. Second, you must plan cheat days in your menu. Third, you must eat fewer calories than your body needs in order to use up reserves. Most of this is nothing new, but the idea of planned cheat days may surprise you.

New studies seem to indicate that long term caloric deficiencies cause leptin levels in the brain to drop, slowing metabolism. Leptin is the primary appetite and fat storing hormone. When you diet, leptin levels drop over the course of several days and eventually trigger the brains starvation mode. This will cause your metabolism to slow dramatically.

One cheat day a week, if properly executed will cause leptin levels to rise again, keeping your metabolism running on high.
