However, that interest often starts to wane and the dream of playing the guitar fades into the past. This is when many guitars end up collecting dust or on ebay! The purpose of this article is to make sure that you do not let that be the case for you.Here are 4 key things that if implemented will give you a great chance of getting past the Beginners stage and into the Intermediate stage where you will be confidently playing many tunes of your choice.Firtsly; Practice is absolutely the most important thing.To put it simply practise really does make for perfection. Don't rush through your lessons. No matter what type of lessons you are taking there will be reasons why they are laid out the way they are. Trust that the instructor or author does know what the method is behind the format. The more time you set aside the fatser this will happen, and that is the most common problem. Beginners tend to want to be able to play really fast but do not put in the time required. Key learning point; make sure your expectations are in line with the amount of time you have available. And that leads to...Secondly; Make sure you set aside or dedicate times that you will do your practise and lessons.The minimum time you should spend in any session is 10 minutes. And in the early stages that may also be enough. Then you can set yourself for your first public performance!Fourth and Fianlly; Review where you are up to. At the end of each month, it is time to assess how your fingers are dealing with playing and see if you can increase the amount of practise you are doing. By now your fingers ought to have acclimatized to the strings, and you can start to allow for more time practicing. The other thing you might want to do if you are comfortable with how your lessons and practise is going is to use that extra time just for learning and perfecting a special song.This might not be a very easy one depending on what your musical tastes are, but once again practise makes perfect. If you find your song is a bit of a tough one, break it down a bit and just try to learn say the introduction, or the main riff, or the corus. Get each of those bits down pat, then move on to the next. After 4 or 5 weeks you can begin to bring it all together.Most of all try to start combining the enjoyment of playing, knowing that you have to do the hard yards as well.
