People often raise their good cholesterol and lower their bad cholesterol whilst on low-carb diets! However, it can be very tough to stay on these diets because of how used to eating carbs that we are.

If you are thinking about starting a low-carb diet, consider this for a moment. Most low-carb diets dont actually have you monitor calorie intake. What does this mean for you? It means you get to eat! No starving on this diet. You dont need to eat an entire table of food every meal either, but eat until you are satisfied. That being said, here are my top five ways to fight carb cravings on a low-carb diet.

5. This one will be the most obvious: Cheat periodically. Dont go too overboard, but do indulge in some of those things that you are craving now and then. Write down in a notebook what you are craving and keep it there for the next time that you do allow yourself to cheat. I wouldnt recommend cheating more than once a week. It is good to surprise your body sometimes!

4. Do your research! Be totally aware of the carb amounts in various food items. You might be surprised at what you can eat! Also, there are many foods that can be substituted for other high-carb foods. My favorite would be cauliflower, as it can be used as a noodle substitute and can also be made into fake rice in a food processor. Spaghetti squash can also be used to, well, make something like spaghetti! Be creative with what you can eat!


3. Dont go out to eat as much! Its very difficult to find low-carb options at many restaurants, so dont submit yourself to it. If you do go out to eat somewhere, plan ahead as to what youre going to eat. If they have something that you really, really want, resist and figure out how you can make it yourself at home. Ill talk more about that very soon!


2. Eat more rich foods! As many people know, youre not watching your fat intake on a low-carb diet. Use heavy cream and butter to make things far more tasty! Many people start low-carb diets and just dont eat enough, leading them to cheat more often. But adding things like cream, cheese, and butter can help to lessen these issues. Now I know there is some debate about dairy and its effects on blood-sugar, but it seems to be generally accepted on low-carb diets. Cheese is definitely low-carb, so enjoy some now and then! Just avoid that milk!

1. Use high-quality low-carb substitutes! This is by far the most important tip that I can give. Honestly, reason 5 makes some sense because its good to trick your body now and then, but honestly, I havent really needed to cheat because Ive been eating many of the things I love so much on a daily basis! And they are low-carb! Now, there are many baking products that people use in low carb diets (almond meal and flax meal to name a couple) that just dont taste all that good. Carbquik is the solution!
