The Binder Edge TM: Getting organized from A to Z

The Binder Edge TM is a strategic way of planning and organizing projects and orevents --your life in a nutshell. The idea behind this concept originated from planning multiple events, with multiple priorities over more than ten (10) years. Having all critical information readily accessible and organized in a strategic way meant a better planning of those events or projects.

The Binder Edge TM protects your sanity and ensures the transcendental (in your absence, someone can follow what you had mapped out)nature of the work being planned and done. At the end of the process, you will have :

a) planned

b) initiated, and

c) executed (what you set out to do or organize)

What do you need?

1) binder

2) tabs

3) sheet protectors

How do you proceed?

Start breaking doing the event, project in question

Visualize the full scope from A to Z

Put a tab for each big bucket (of ideas, categories, etc...)

Tab 1, should be your own section of "to dos" or pending items

Create a task matrix, and

End with a POC (point of contact) list so you have to contact informationofeveryonewho is involved

For example, as we are planning an event, the binder createdwill havethe most pertinent tabs per below:

Starting with tab 1, "To do"; tab2 : list of invitees, tab 3: save the date & copy of the invitation; tab 4: task matrix;who is doing what, at what time, and where;tab 5, media/ press release; tab 6: budget; tab 7:seating; tab 8: point of contact with names, titles, email, cell number-which is the list of everyone who is playing a role, i.e., vendor, critical staff, et al.

It does take some time to create the shell of the binder. But the time you take tostart the binder will keep you organized and remove the clutter from your mind and desk. All information will then be consolidated in a binder, and in clear sheet protectors. You will label the spine of the binder with the name of the project or event, and print a cover sheet for the front with the most important information. For example: you could put the logo, write "Briefing Book for YOUR NAME," the title of event/project, and the date. The date will become very importantover time when you have to refer to your event/project. If there is no end dateto the project, the date createdwill suffice. Over time, it will help you to remember when you first started to think of the project.

When needed, you pull the binder off the shelf and refer to your different sections. It is important to note that you have toplace the relevant documentation as your project or planning evolves, otherwise, you will be left with an emptyand non usable shell.

DoesThe Binder EdgeTM work? Absolutely. And, it gives you an edge! It allows you to show up at meetings with a binder that is clearly well organized; it allows you to consolidate the clutter at home and at work.

In the end, what you end up doing is removing the fear of tackling a projectby putting it in a format-- a binder --that allows you to stay organized from beginning to end, from A to Z.
