The Bugs of Harry Potter

There are many interesting creatures in Harry Potter series

. In each of the new books there appear few new creatures which strike immense curiosity in the reader. What many of us don't realize is that these creatures have a rich history of Mythology as well as Folkfore. Some of them like Werewolf, Griffon, Troll and Vampire are well known whereas some others are not.

By mythological accounts a Hippogriff (a cross between a Griffon and a Horse) as a creature should not have existed. Griffon by itself is a lion and has eagle's wings and one of its favorite food happens to be horse. There was a phrase which used to say" I'll be able to do it whenever Griffons and Horses mate" which actually would mean "sometime never". It was not until a poem "Orlando Furioso" which was written by Ariosto. In this poem Atlantis rides on a Hippogriff. In middle ages this beast gained immense popularity and since then has been on scene with other mythological creatures.

Basilisk also plays a very important part in mythology. This is a serpent which is held responsible for the deserts in Middle East. Actually it is a small snake with lots of venom and whose throat never touches the ground. Everything which was related to this snake was full of poison, maybe its glance, saliva or bit, even the smell of Basilisk would mean instant death. The Basilisk's venom would rotten the fruits on Earth and would poison waters, which is the reason for people believing that it was the reason for deserts. The head of Basilisk had a crest which meant that he was infact king among all the snakes. Its name Basilisk came from a Greek word Basileus which means a King. Its skin had white strips and few spots. It had a piercing cry which was capable of causing death and possessed a fiery breath.

It is a fact that without Fairies there is no Fantasy which can be said to be complete and same holds true for Harry Potter. Many different fairies appear in the entire series. Most notorious one is Boggart. This creature haunts North England homes. Another Fairy is Brownie, which is in a habit to interact with human beings though Borrgart is in a habit to play pranks and indulge in mischief. It's exact opposite is Dobby who is a house elf. Dobbies are also brownie, though they prefer to assist people in their homes in any way they can though they are not very intelligent.
