The Cactus League Has Arrived
Spring is upon us once again here in the desert
. Daytime highs of low sixties have turned into the high seventies and low eighties. The flowers are beginning to shake their winter chill and blossom to signal the coming change of seasons. Perhaps nothing truly marks the impending transition here in the Valley of the Sun as much as the arrival of spring training in Arizona for major league baseball.
The national pastime commences each new season with roughly six weeks of training and preparation before opening day on April first. The thirty teams that comprise the MLB are split between Florida and Arizona, where they enjoy the climate and culture that has made each of these destinations unique. As of 2012, fifteen teams train in Arizona and fifteen call Florida their temporary home.
Arizona has long been home to teams like the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and California Angels, but in recent years and as a result of a few new modern training facilities that have been built in different parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area, it is also now the springtime destination of teams such as the Cincinnati Reds, the Kansas City Royals, and the Texas Rangers.
Spring training is a time for teams to assimilate any new incoming players that may have been added to the roster for the upcoming season, as well as to evaluate new talent rising through the teams developmental programs in the minor leagues.
Cactus League practice and games are also a wonderful opportunity to the fans to get to know their teams up close and personal. Spring training offers unprecedented access to the coaches and players, and the vast majority of the ball players welcome the chance to engage their fans for autographs or conversations.
Attending venues such as Scottsdale Stadium, where the San Francisco Giants play, and the new Salt River Fields at Talking Stick located on the Native American reservation near Scottsdale, which houses both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, have truly become sought after social events. In fact, there is no better way to attend a mid-day game in Scottsdale than to arrive in a limousine.
Numerous local limousine companies offer chauffeured service to allow you and your friends or family to travel in style to and from the game, or extend your day at the ballpark with an evening on the town afterwards. Limousine service offers the comfort and safety to make a trip to the baseball stadium one for the record books.
Once you have selected the teams you want to see and the stadium you wish to attend the game at, one final and very important question remains; which style of limousine is going to be the ideal way to top off the day? You could choose a standard stretch Cadillac or Lincoln, or step it up a notch and elect to go for the H2 Hummer or maybe even a party bus.
Whatever your choice, the sweet smell of cut grass and the sound of the crack of the bat mean that it is time to play ball and that spring is finally upon us.
