The Cardinal Cross - Those born 24th - 28th strap on your seatbelts!
While driving to work the other day I heard on KCRW a story that made me smile. If you are one of those folks out there who looks at the upcoming cardinal climax as something to fear, I would like to share a beautiful example of how it can play out in a positive way.
OK. Let me back up. What the heck is the cardinal cross I hear you ask. To break it down simply it is a rare planetary alignment that astrologers have been talking about for a long time, that was set off by the June 26 Partial Lunar Eclipse. This Lunar Eclipse is asking us to purge and release all that we have buried and is holding us back. What we are to be purging will play out differently depending on where this cross is lining up in your chart. The faster moving bodies the Sun, Moon and Mercury have moved on from this configuration however Saturn, Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto will still be engaging throughout the summer. Many astrologers believe that the effects of a Lunar eclipse last up to approximately six months.
Here is a visual of the lunar eclipse and all the players involved.
We have the (full) Moon and Pluto at 4 degrees Capricorn opposing the Sun at 4 Cancer joined by Mercury at 2 Cancer, squaring Uranus at 0 Aries and Jupiter close by at 2 Aries opposite Saturn at 28 Virgo. That's a lot of energy in cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) and yes if you have planets in early degrees of cardinal you will feel this energy personally at play in your life and especially if you are born between 24th and the 28th of any month.
All signs have a mode or way of being and are either cardinal, fixed or mutable. One of my astrology teachers explained it best in this little anecdote. It's a hot summers day and the air conditioning breaks down. The mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) will take their jackets off, they are flexible and will adapt to the situation. The fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius) will sit there and sweat, they are the ones who persist and endure against all odds. The cardinal signs will be up out of their seats screaming "where is that damned air conditioner, let's get it fixed", they are action oriented and initiate. So this is a time of new beginnings and of course with new beginnings there are also endings and things to let go of.
This rings true without even going into the astrology and looking simply at the symbolism of the cross alone. We can look at the ancient Egyptian Cross or Ankh which was a symbol of life and fertility and we then of course there is the Christian Cross or Latin Cross which represents death, and the death of Jesus in particular. This is a cross roads for humanity where instead of taking a side and going to battle, we can integrate and evolve, it is a an ending of the old ways and the birth of a new time. For even though at first the cross may seem divided it is encompassed by a circle, by the whole and divided equally.
There is something to take from each corner of the square, and even more specifically at each polarity. The themes that are being presented to humanity to resolve right now and over the next few years are about realigning and balancing home life, feminine energies, nurturance of ourselves and the planet with the masculine energies, with career, ambition and corporate and governmentstructures (Cancer/Capricorn polarity). So all you Cancerians out there it is your time to shine and be proud, to lead by simply being your nurturing, sensitive, yin, connected and respectful selves. With Pluto in the mix I have no doubt that the corruption and greed that is the engine of the imbalance will be exposed as Pluto's function is to heal and transform and healing can only take place if the source of the wound is found. The Aries/ Libra part of the equation is informing us that justice, fairness and equality can prevail through the action of the people, of the masses. We do have a voice and can make a difference if we can come together through community and voice our concerns about these existing structures.
A beautiful example of this in action!!!

Bhutan to build a Gross National Happiness center - BBC article
Bhutan, Gross National Happiness (GNH) is a new and unconventional (Uranus) system developed in attempt to find a way to measure (Saturn) quality of life (Cancer) in more holistic and psychological (Pluto) terms than gross national product or GDP, bridging the gap between the spiritual and the material. I feel this statement made by is a beautiful example of the type of change that is possible over the next few years of this cardinal cross dance.
The tool used to measure a country's success is important, and gross national happiness is helping to produce the kind of wealth Thinley said he wants for his country. The components of the index "are a reflection of the kind of values my society upholds, the kind of values that we want to create, values of the real kind, wealth of the real kind, not of the illusory kind that can disappear overnight as with stocks," he said.
