To win the top Caribbean honeymoon destination' for the eighth year in a row is no mean feat. But that's exactly what Saint Lucia managed in 2010 so what exactly is the appeal of this tiny island country in the Caribbean Sea?
Well, with palm trees, warm breezes, lush rainforest, white sand and mile-upon-mile of gorgeous coastline, Saint Lucia's location certainly puts it in a good starting position for newly-weds to celebrate their nuptials.
However, this island paradise isn't just for couples. As with many Caribbean destinations, Saint Lucia is a great place for the whole family, with many hotels offering kids' clubs, water parks and child-friendly menus. And if you want to get away with a group of friends, there are plenty of private villas to hire too complete with pool and staff.
Naturally, relaxing in the sun is a very popular activity on Saint Lucia but there's more on offer than sun, sand and sea. For starters, there's surfing, sailing and snorkelling not to mention horse-riding, golfing, quad-biking and hiking.
If you like to be at one with nature, then head to the golden sands of Anse Cochon, where you can watch turtles strut their stuff, or head out to sea for a spot of whale-watching.
Of course, this type of idyllic lifestyle isn't unique to Saint Lucia. The Caribbean is teeming with islands of a similar ilk, which makes choosing a destination rather tough but that's a rather nice problem to have.
From the Bahamas and Barbados, to the Cayman Islands and Cuba, you could spend a lifetime exploring what amounts to literally thousands of atolls that constitute the myriad of tiny island-countries. Puerto Rico, for example, has 142 islands alone.
Jamaica is as good a starting point as any, in terms of getting to grips with the massive expanse that is the Caribbean. Music lovers will no doubt be titillated by the island's reggae roots and the Bob Marley Museum in the capital Kingston is a great place to kick things off.
But Jamaica isn't all about chilling to reggae beats. The capital is crammed with historic buildings, some dating back to the 17th century, and the centre is a great starting point to familiarise yourself with the island.
You can then head off into the Blue Mountains to witness some good old-fashioned coffee-cultivation, or simply build up a sweat hiking in the stunning surroundings you'll find yourself in. Throw into the equation some sublime local cuisine, and you're sure to have the holiday of a lifetime in Jamaica.
Regardless of where you choose to go in the Caribbean, there's little doubt that Caribbean holidays are the perfect way to unwind, in what can only be described as a truly awe-inspiring part of the world.
