Hemorrhoids are vascular structure in the anal canal for stool control. This situation usually appear during pregnancy , after childbirth, anal infections, constipation and diseases such as liver cirrhosis. This situation is common for people who constantly strain. Straining causes the vascular structures to get swollen or inflamed. There are two types of hemmorrhoids. The first one is internal hemmorrhoids which is only inside the anus while external hemmorhoids are outside the anus and it may also hang outside. Its structure has a similarity with that of a cauliflower.

If you are experiencing hemmorrhoids, you may experience any of these symptoms; anal itching,pain during bowel movements, one or more tender lumps near the anus or appearance of bright red blood on toilet tissue, stool, or in the toilet bowl.

When you experience any of these symptoms, you have to visit the doctor asap. The doctor may examine the area and also perform diagnostic tests such as stool guaiac (shows presence of blood), sigmoidoscopy (wherein a camera is affixed to inspect the anal area), and anoscopy. After that, the doctor will decide what form of treatment fits you.

Corticosteroid creams that alleviate the redness and swelling are available over the counter. Hemorrhoids with lidocaine cream also help alleviate pain. To minimize moisture, wearing of cotton garment is useful. If there are moisture in certain areas, bacteria may accumulate and cause infection. Another thing to be avoided are tissues with perfumes because it worsens the affected area.

Sitz baths can improve circulation so it is recommended for hemmorroids patient. Sitz bath is usually done by sitting on a warm water in a basin for a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes. Stool softeners also reduces straining and constipation.

Surgery is necessary if home remedies do not relieve the symptoms.

To prevent recurrence, it is suggested to drink plenty of fluids and maintain a high fiber diet.
