It can be difficult to treat, as the way to kill bacteria and fungal infection is to starve it of moisture and oxygen, both of which can be difficult to do bearing in mind the fact that the area is on the face and on the edges of the mouth.

The root causes of mouth cracks can be dealt with if you are aware of what might have brought them about. For example, if you think that nutritional deficiency could be an issue, then a good all-round supplement might help. If dampness is a problem, think about what might have caused the mouth cracks. Is it badly fitting dentures, or maybe you are prone to finger or pen sucking. What this will do is prevent further outbreaks, but the pressing issue is to kill off the current infection which is unlikely to go away on its own.
