The Characteristics of Effective Pharmacist: Kindness
One of the characteristics that a pharmacist must have among other things is kindness. Many people who come to the pharmacy for their medications are suffering from an illess. Some of the people coming to the pharmacy have just come back from the doctor or hospital having received bad news about their conditions and others are picking up medications in order to get well from a sickness or disease.
All people who are suffering from illness or who are sick deserve to be treated with kindness. Being sick is unfortunate and can bring sadness to the people who are sick. Sometimes ill people cannot get out of the house very often and the only time they are really able to leave is when they have to go out and get their medications. In this case the only people they may be seeing is the Pharmacist and this is one of the reasons it is very important to be kind to all of the people who come into the pharmacy.
Another reason why it is important to be a kind person when working as a Pharmacist is because it can be difficult for both the person picking up the medication and the Pharmacist to deal with the insurance companies who are the middle man in between the patient and the Pharmacist. Often times dealing with the insurance companies can be like dealing with a stubborn ram and it can be a very frustrating experience. Sometimes the people who come to pick up their medications do not realize that it is not the pharmacists fault if a medication can not be filled when they want it to be because they are not used to dealing with the insurance companies. When the patients get upset that the pharmacist can not give them the medication they need they can sometimes lash out at the pharmacist because of stress and frustration. In this instance it is important for the pharmacist to remember to be firm but also to remain kind in these situations until the situation gets resolved as the situation can already be stressful.
