The Characteristics of Effective Security Guards: Kindness
Security guards provide a unique service to both businesses and individuals. They protect not only the building or office that they are guarding but individual people as well. They are willing to put their life on the line to protect what they believe in.
Security guards have a strong sense of duty to both their employer and to the people they help to protect. They are able to use common sense and good judgment. This ensures that the job is completed as safely as possible with the minimum number of people hurt or killed.
Security guards can, at time, carry weapons when they are certified and licensed to do so. They must have a keen eye and be observant as they are often called to testify in court. Communications is extremely important as they must be able to report what has happened to their employers or other professional personnel such as legal council, police officers and firefighters.
No life should ever be lost to protect information or buildings. Even though security officers at times can find themselves in a dangerous situation they must display the knowledge of their environment while remaining calm in a stressful situation. They must be able to be decisive and act quickly in criminal situations to determine when it is time to call the police or handle the situation themselves.
Some of the characteristics of a security guard include honesty, integrity and courage. The ability to take pride in their work as well as standing by their moral and ethical beliefs is important. They have a strong sense of duty to themselves, their employers and the public. With the ability to communicate and get along well with others, they often provide information to visitors about the security policies of the company they are guarding. They follow directions well and at time can act as leaders in dangerous situations.
Security guards are sometimes over looked as people of authority, but this should not be the case. Just like people have the right to make a citizens arrest, so to do security guards. They are authority figures who at times do not get the credit they deserve for the tireless and relentless duty and service they provide for their employer and the public.
