Let's begin from where it all started.
Ten years ago, Apple embarked on their journey towards portable music players. When the iPod hit the market, the competition was either huge devices with too many options or a terrible user interface. The iPod still outraced the competition despite its starting bugs, as it could hold quite a bit of music and still be user-friendly. The machine had a clunky track wheel and a complete lack of Windows compatibility, and the price range led many to believe that the iPod wouldn't be a product that would last.
At four hundred dollars as a starting price, it seemed that the little machines were in trouble. Despite its price tag and shortcomings, in the few months left of 2001 when the iPod was launched in October, Apple sold one hundred twenty-five thousand iPods.
The first iPods were launched in October 2001. The first one has a 5MB capacity and worked only on Macs, with iTunes as an organizational tool. Oddly enough, iTunes was released six months earlier as a program for music with the Macs, but was not designed with the iPod in mind. Since this time and lasting long, the iPod has evolved to hold even more music, along with some design changes to keep the product a superior item that will continue to last.
A better scroll wheel turned into a sensitive touch pad that mimics a wheel when you make the motions to move it. An added data port helps with transfer, and third-party software has made it easier for PC users to get along. Accessories have been many, and there are several covers and even "skins" that you can buy to decorate each and every generation of iPods that come out. These changes and accessories, along with some others have put the iPod on top for the last ten years.
But even though today's iPods are much better than ten years ago, prices are lower, and you can easily get the newest iPod touch for two hundred dollars - about half of what it used to cost then.
It's easy to find the lowest prices online today. Just do a Google search and go through the different stores seeing which gives you the best price. Another option is to use a price comparison site. There are different sites out there. Some are general and some are more specific to electronics or smaller set of products.
Why do the hard work of research when someone else has done it for you?
