The Choice of God Songs Can be Problematic

Is it possible that contemporary Christian music can be as good as traditional hymns when it comes to worship? I'm pretty sure that it can

. As far as I'm concerned there is room for both when it comes to worship. I'm pretty sure that a number of worship leaders are missing out on a golden opportunity.

The first question some may ask, does modern Christian music have a place in worship? The newer churches tend to feature this type of music regularly However the older churches do not tend to use these more modern God songs. So are these newer Christian songs suitable for worship? Hymns are meant to be songs of praise and worship.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would think a song like "I Can Only Imagine" does not glorify God. I believe the problem is one of human nature. People naturally resist things that are new.

This issue is far from one sided. For the most part you will not hear the old hymns at the large modern churches. Motivated by a fear of losing the young crowd these modern churches often refrain from the old God songs. Of course the youth should be focused on, the message cannot be allowed to die off. Is it really necessary to overlook the older crowd completely though? The youth will not run away just because a few older God songs are added to the mix.

The opinions I have presented are merely that opinions from an average layperson. I do fear that an unnecessary divide is being created between Christians. That may limit interaction. This interaction could prove very beneficial to either side. The solution to this problem is really quite simple. Would it be so bad to include traditional hymns as well as contemporary Christian music?

As far as I'm concerned the perfect service would include newer God songs like "Awesome God" and also traditionals like "How Great Thou Art." A suggestion to your pastor to add a little of one or the other to the service just might bring some new faces next Sunday morning. In the church that I normally attend there is an amazing mixture of people. I mean it is normal to see a woman with a Mohawk singing and praising right next to a gentleman in a very nice suit. To me this glorifies his name in a great way.

The generation gap seems to be the problem here to me. Over the years there has always been a natural resistance to embrace the new. This is true of most things not just Christian music. Do you feel that Christian music of old is better than the newer Christian songs that are put out today? Who's to say that you can't like both? You may be missing out if you refuse to give the newer Christian music a chance. I suggest that you check some of the Christian songs out from these artists and give them chance. There is something for everyone in today's Christian music.
