The College Admissions Process

The College Admissions Process

Much flack has been given over the college administration process. If you have ever been enrolled in college or at a university and have had to deal with the registrar's office on more than one occasion, then there is a good chance that you've encountered a great deal of frustration over something that didn't go quite as planned.

These people oversee the finances as well as any budgeting issues. Also referred to as education administrators, college administrators handle the budgeting issues that may range anywhere from financial aid matters to employee compensation. At times, a college administrator may be involved in the decision making when it comes to the admissions process as well as campus records. It is not a position that should be taken lightly.

More often than not, whenever a student has to deal with a college administration officer or someone else in the administration building for matters such as obtaining another copy of their college transcript, there are times when this seemingly simple task doesn't go through quite as smooth. Suddenly, the student finds out that there are issues related to his or her transcript, he or she is missing some piece of information related to being able to pick up a copy of their transcript, etc. The list could go on and on. A lot of the problems involved in the college administration process have to do with organization, lack thereof and/or problems with the college administration infrastructure. These issues can be incredibly frustrating to have to deal with, but are not that uncommon to come across. That being said, what can you (as a student) do before entering a college administration building?

If you know that you are going to need copies of your college transcript, for instance, research the requirements ahead of time so that you know exactly what items you need to have in hand when you walk through the door. For example, some college administration buildings do not accept any other form of payment for a college transcript except for cash or check. For other administration buildings, you may be able to get away with credit or debit in addition to cash and checks. Know how much a copy of your transcript is going to cost as well as what the difference is between an "unofficial" transcript versus an "official" transcript. This will help determine not only the cost but the timeliness as well. In some cases, if you order an official college transcript, you can also ask to have your university or college mail it to another school.

Knowledge is power. Know the rules before you enter the administration buildings. Write down questions if you have them and/or look online to see if there is a website at your college for the administration department. It will save you a lot of hassle in the long run.
