The Common Causes Of Tooth Decay
It can be extremely embarrassing to have to deal with tooth decay
. As the tooth rots and becomes discolored, the person whose mouth the tooth inhabits starts looking older by the day. Decaying teeth not only make a person look older, they can also seemingly make a statement about that person's financial status (i.e., not having the resources to have the situation corrected), wrong or right. While it's a discrimination that shouldn't occur, it does, and the only way to solve the problem is to get decaying teeth fixed or to avoid the causes of tooth in the first place.
A number of things can cause decaying teeth. The first thing that may cause tooth decay and tooth damage is, of course, neglecting your teeth. We use our teeth every day and we often forget to take good care of them. Dentists recommend that teeth should be brushed every day after every meal, resulting in three brushings a day. They also suggest that teeth are flossed no less than once a day, and that those who are prone to tooth deterioration (courtesy of family genetic history) use antiseptic mouthwash to help kill the germs in the mouth.
Unfortunately, the average person doesn't clean their mouth as often or as well as their dentist would like. It is estimated that the average person brushes their teeth one and a half times per day, and that they floss even less than that. The best way to avoid having to deal with tooth decay or tooth damage is to brush your teeth at least twice a day and remember to floss once a day.
Genetics can play a part in whether someone is going to be more susceptible to tooth damage or not. Those people who have a number of family members with dentures are much more likely to deal with tooth rot than those who have family members who have kept all of their teeth. While this is a cause that you can't control, you can take good care of your teeth to help reduce or delay any sort of decay, by brushing, flossing, and making regular trips to the dentist.
Tooth decay is never a pretty sight, but if you take the time to take care of your teeth, you'll find that they'll be healthy to take care of you for a very long time. And just to rehash, as the tooth rots and becomes discolored, the person whose mouth the tooth inhabits starts looking older by the day.
