The Complete Repair Process For Industrial Servo Motors

Servo motors are complex machines with special overhaul requirements

. When trying to detect the issue with a malfunctioning part, every servo motor needs to go through an extensive evaluation process. It includes various stages like surge testing and torque testing. All assembled motors are fitted with high grade sealed bearings and double lip seals in a front flange.

Repairing a servo motor is not an easy task; you will need to hire a specialist who has the capabilities to test and repair the motor at competitive prices. When re-installing the refurbished motors, it should work as well as a brand new one.

As previously discussed, a malfunctioning servo motor must be subjected to an extensive evaluation process to find the root of the problem and be able to repair it efficiently. When testing the part, the technicians look for static or dynamic parts which do not meet factory specifications in order to try to figure out the cause of the issue. You will need to provide them with technical data sheets so that they can obtain finite specs for the servo motor. This can make the difference between the motor working and performing as if it just came out of the factory.

Here are a few things you can expect when you send your servo motor for repair:

* static and dynamic check

* thoroughly component testing

* detailed mechanical tolerance check

* replacement of the bad or damaged components

* reassemble and align the motor

* complete run testing

When repairing a servo motor, the first step is to run a Meg test to check if any moisture potentially grounded the motor. If moisture has affected the stator, the motor is disassembled and the windings are washed and baked. Afterwards, the unit is Meg tested again.

If the problem is not resolved from the Meg test, the technicians will run a complete machine evaluation. This includes checking all of the electrical and mechanical parts on the servo motor. Engineers will check the bearing fits, housing fits, corroded and broken flanges, and for worn output shafts. All of the problems found during the evaluation process are repaired and the motor is tested again.

The motor is going to continue to be tested until it is running as new. During the testing, the technicians will ensure that all feedback devices encoder, resolver, hall sensor, and tachometer are functioning well. This is followed by a surge test of the stator and a complete electrical winding evaluation. This is done to verify the quality of winding and if the stator fails the technicians will rewind it. Then, they will dip it in epoxy resin and bake it to set the finish.

Once that is done, they will work on re-assembling the motor. All assembled motors are fitted with high grade sealed bearings, o-rings, gaskets and connector, which affect the overall performance of the motor. Sealed bearings keep dirt from getting into the bearing races, ensuring a longer life. The double lip seals keep coolant from getting to the bearing. Finally, o-rings, gaskets connectors ensure that the servo motor is protected from liquid contamination.

The final step in the repair process is to run the servo motor on a drive. This allows the engineers to confirm that all of the previous steps taken in the servo motor repair process were done correctly. The motor test is run at full voltages and full currents of the motors capability. Before dispatching the repair motor, they make a name plate, providing the owner of the motor with all of the relevant data needed.

There are many reputable servo motor repair companies in the United States. Whether you need an Allen Bradley, Indramat or Fanuc servo motor repair, Repair Zone will be at your service.
