The Consequences Of War On The Medical Industry
Ghastly war is frequently very bad for practicing medical personnel
. Even harder than the loss of it's members themselves, the medical profession often regrets being involved in a situation they are unable to relate to. It is of paramount importance for doctors to remain neutral in all conflicts, but they are still always very much in the line of fire.
If there is ever a war on American soil, the demand for physicians will become incredibly greater because so many more will become sick and injured, and there will be a need for more organization. There would also be far reaching effects in the United States as well. Most of the local physicians' groups would find younger members recruited for war service. The oldest members of the profession, who may have already retired, will be asked to come back to service. Many individuals will probably turn their practices over to clinics, and clinics would create joint practices with synergetic groups. There will be a lot more focus on the prevention of epidemics. One of the lessons from the past that we must remember is that the most important time to be combating pandemics is when the medical profession is spread the thinnest.
This may bring about the creation of local army service units. As a matter of fact, all medical schools in the U.S. have been analyzed and recorded. There is also a skeletal structure in place under the National Guard, directed by the war department, that could begin operating quickly. Because of their authority, doctors and other medical professionals will have to defer to the Army Sanitary Corps. Protecting the nation's water and food supply will be of utmost importance. That's because these two areas are so very important to the health of its citizens.
There will be physicians who will be expected to improve certain medical supplies and certain special drugs. Scientific research will be the war's greatest contribution at this time. There will need to be large amounts of study dedicated to the effects of war wound shock, when men that are barely injured at all will collapse involuntarily, so that proper shock divisions can be accommodated.
In this time of need, it will be important for teaching to be better than ever. There will be a need for more doctors, as some may be killed as has happened in previous times. The reason for all of this, obviously, is because of the United States' role in the war. If American can keep themselves removed from all out war, the more prurient form of research will probably focus on shock and other similar problems.
The best discoveries will be made if the scientists are able to remain calm. There would be so many wonderful things to come of the research that came out of the situation, but it would be much better if it didn't have to occur due to the horrible circumstance of war. Anyone that lived through the last war can tell you about the horrible intellectual and moral concerns that can be drug up by a new war. When the research first began, it was easy to be convinced to keep a level head, and it was also easy to gather facts.
But as more time went by and the horrors of war became an everyday occurrence, reason broke down. Truth and morality ceased to be priorities for us. Rational thinking apparently breaches treachery. Compassion became a sin, while callousness was rewarded. No one knows how far we must travel down this road again. From previous lessons learned, we can only be sure of one thing. Everyone loses in the insanity of war.
At the end of the war, economies will need resuscitation, our souls will require cleansing, and a return to values and academic integrity will be essential. This will ease us through the period of rebuilding, and it will help us to work at our fullest capacity to hold up the spirit of positive, constructive working.
