The Cost of RFID Pharmaceutical Software Becomes More Affordable

Incorporating the use of RFID in pharmaceutical software is a relatively new idea. It is likely to become more popular as the cost of the technology decreases. For anyone that owns a drugstore or manages a doctors office, it is worth considering. Ill explain why, but first, let me explain a little bit about how it works.
RFID stands for radio-frequency identification or ID. Tags of various sizes are applied to or incorporated within a product that provides information about that item. The amount of information that can be stored in the tag is far greater than what could be stored on a conventional barcode.
The tags can be read from some distance away. The reader does not necessarily need to be within the line of sight of the item. So, it is possible to check what is in the storage room, without actually opening the door.
At first, the tags were relatively large. The ones used to keep track of endangered animals, for example. Today, it is possible to make the tags small enough to attach to an ant and study his behavior.
Large companies such as Gillette have been using the devices since 2003. So, if you own a drugstore and you carry Gillette razors or some of their other products, you may already have RFID tags in your store.
Purdue Pharma used the technology to track shipments of oxycontin. Other drug companies are or will soon be using the technology as well.
So, if you dont have the right pharmaceutical software today, you will almost certainly need it in the future. If you are getting ready to implement a new system, it makes sense to install one that will last for years to come.
In addition to their ability to store larger amounts of data in a small place, RFID tags allow for real time tracking of inventory. Depending on the pharmaceutical software that you are currently working with, it may be difficult for your employees to check the availability of a drug or other item, without physically walking to the storeroom.
Many large hospitals are currently using the technology to keep track of drugs and other inventory. If it works on the large scale, obviously, it will work on a smaller scale, too. No more frustrating trips through the aisles looking for an item. A reader will display the items location in a matter of moments.
With the right security system, RFID tags and pharmaceutical software can be used to sound an alarm when a product walks out of the door. This does not require the use of the large electronic tags used in department stores. So, there are many advantages. Its definitely something to consider.About the Author:
