The Cotswolds

Sometimes there is no need to leave your own country for a beautiful and romantic destination

, and the Cotswolds is a perfect example of romantic escapism in this country. The Cotswolds hills straddle the borders of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset, and offer some beautiful scenery and verdant backdrops.

Visit Cirencester, the self proclaimed capital f the area, and visit the beautiful parish church to see some great examples of English architecture.

Swimbrook is a chocolate box town, famous for the connection with the Mitford sisters, who resided at the stunning Asthall Manor, and is a must visit for literary buffs.

Visit Berkeley to see Edward Jenner's house, which is now a museum dedicated to the life and works of the scientist. The museum is open April to October and is well worth a visit.

For roman elegance, visit the roman baths in Bath. It was one of the finest religious spas in the world, and you can walk around the restored areas, even sampling a taste of some of the old bath water!

Visit Cheltenham for some relaxed sports, such as the cricket at the Croquet club, where you can relax with a Pimms and watch the game. If you prefer leisurely walks then the whole of the Cotswolds is perfect for you, and can be visited all year round as long as you are not adverse to a little rain or snow in the winter months!
