The Countdown to 2012: Planet/Asteroid Collision

The Countdown to 2012: Planet/Asteroid Collision

Introduction

Speculation is mounting as to what possible events are set to occur on the 12th December, 2012. One of the seemingly more likely predictions is that Earth is set to have a cataclysmic collision with a passing comet, which would be potentially devastating for human life...

The Collision

It is suggested that the collision could be of a similar nature to the one that supposedly killed the dinosaurs around 65 million years ago. Many contrasting theories have arisen as to the nature of this colliding object. One of which is that the asteroid, Toutatis, will pass very close to the Earth (in astronomical terms) and would certainly be capable of a collision if it is sent from its natural course.

Such asteroids are often kilometres wide in length, but it is possible that with the aid of nukes (an unpopular subject as not many wish to use weapons in space), we would be able to divert, deflect or destroy it before impact. It is not known if such preparation is in place already.

Another hypothesis is that a mystery planet, namely X' or Nibiru', has been hiding behind the sun for a number of years and is set to collide with Earth in 2012. More extreme theorists suggest that this planet inhabits a superior race or alien population who were originally our creators and have come back to regain control of Earth.

The Effects

1# - Potentially fatal impact

It is suggested if a significant impact occurs, two thirds of the world's population will be instantly wiped out. It is not known which parts of the planet will feel the direct force of the impact and it is unlikely to be predicted until a matter of days before it takes place.

2# - Unprecedented tsunamis

After the initial impact, the seas would form catastrophic tsunamis with 100 foot high waves crashing onto the beaches and wiping out many countries not protected by surrounding masses of land.

3# - Poisonous dust clouds

The impact would result in large poisonous dust clouds throughout the Earth's atmosphere. This would block the sun's ability to heat and give life to our planet; and a new ice age will be upon us. Our best chance of survival would be to form a base deep underground whilst the dust settles. This is only possible if we study and prepare for the event before it is too late...
