The Creation Of This Artist
There are a lot of worries that come with giving someone a present. One needs to wait until they will know if the gift was appreciated or not. Having the president of the US himself as the receiver can be tougher. She has her gift with her as she visited the president but before entering she needed to sign a visitor's log. After which a guard was then assigned to deliver bag which had the president's horse, Little Man's portrait in it.
It is her animal portraits that got people into her art and she now lives in Old National Pike with her family. Animals and portraiture are the two things that interest her most, which is why she learned all she could about it and now it has become her business. The fact that she is every enthusiastic with that she does, she was able to make her business do really well.
With pastels, this artist uses photographs of the animals as reference for her work. For the horse portraits, she uses show photos are her guide. Having done portraits with horses, cats, dogs, a goat, parakeets and guinea pigs she shared that each one has touched her heart. Though she has does many portraits of animals, she is also interested in doing one for fishes and turtles. Being a veteran in the industry she has the ability to enhance the features of the animal making it more pleasing to the eye.
She says she had the idea of drawing Little Man several months ago, so she wrote the President's wife for photos from which to work. Later on the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence sent her a reply with some colored photos of the president and the horse. With the mailed photos, her normal process was somehow disrupted. There are some things that pictures miss capturing hence it was her way that she would visit the animal to get to know them better.
Amid working on the project, Little Man had passed. She said that hopefully the portrait will mean more to the President now. There were four stages involved in her work, which she made sure she finished. First, she made a pastel drawing outline, putting in contour lines indicating the exact location of dark, medium and light shadow tones. After this she added some color making sure to blend them well so there were no empty spaced.
Adding a bland background was the next stage and in this case Little Man got on in light blue. The artist says the final step is to make the painting look real. She wanted to capture the authenticity of the portrait hence she spends many a nights doing this.
To her making a portrait for Little Man was a work of love. Given that she loves horses too, she has one which is in Poolesville. Also, she has a cat, a dog and a goat She says she is proud to have done the portrait for the president, and expresses the sentiments of gift givers everywhere.
