The Cricut Expression For Die Cutting Machine Good For Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is the process of collating all of your memories whether it be from photographs
, memorabilia, brochures, lockets of hair etc, into an album, along with a story, so that in many years to come, you or others can look back on the album and reflect on the wonderful occasions and relive the memories.
Scrapbooking is a wonderful therapeutic hobby, that many have taken to a new level, so that each of their pages, becomes a project and challenge to make into a form of artwork, demonstrating their skill and craftiness. One of the best ways to achieve the best quality and unique pages is by cutting titles using a Scrapbooking die cutting machines. They have been a revolution in the scrapbooking world, enabling their uses to cut titles and die cuts from various materials and in every font and shape imaginable.
Electronic and manual types of die cut machines exist and one of the most popular today is the Cricut range of machines by Provo Craft. Cricut was the innovator of scrapbooking die cut machines that could cut letters and shapes electronically and they stand out as being one of the machines that works on cartridges, so does not need to be attached to a computer.
The top of the range model in Provocrafts Cricut range of machines, is the Cricut Expression. Where once the original Cricut Personal Cutter could only cut a half 12x12inch sheet of paper, the Expression machine can now cut 12x12 and 12x24inch sheets. This new functionality is sure to meet the needs of the heaviest scrapbooker users.
However the Expression machine is so much larger, than the Personal and the Create Machines, that it is certainly not easily portable anymore and is meant to be kept in a permanent place in the home, or as Provo Craft are now targeting... the school place or media room!
The Expression has all the same great features of the original Cricut Die Cutting machine. This includes the ability to cut shapes with no computer required. There are lots of fonts and designs available in the massive cartridges selection. Also the same cartridges purchased can be used across the whole Cricut machine range. It also has the ability to cut shapes in varying sizes automatically without having to babysit the machine too much.
However, the Expression has inherited the same painful sticky mat feature that is shared with all the Cricut machines. As painful as this mat is though, when you look at the alternatives, like the Making Memories Slice machine which doesnt have this mat and hence needs to be babysat while cutting, it isnt perhaps the worst idea in the world, as annoying as it is.
In the hopefully near future, it would be great for Provo Craft or another scrapbooking die cutter manufacturer, to design a machine that doesnt have to be babysat, but also doesnt need the painful sticky mat. With electronic die cutters like the Expression, they really only lack the ability to be able to cut delicate sheets of paper, but this is shame as there are some beautiful sheets on the market that would look great in any scrapbook.
So if you are a die hard scrapper with money to burn!!! or you have just been frugle with your scrapbooking so you could save up for the Expression (well done!) then it is truely one of the best on the market at the moment.
