It is its crown, its most precious and valuable belonging and if you visit it, you will surely understand the reason. Alhambra is a complex palace described as marvelous by those who visit it, as those who do instantly fall in love with it. Alhambra was the home of the Nasrid dynasty, which is the last dynasty of the Moors ruling over Spain. The beauty of the decorations and the delicacy of the architectural style is overwhelming, impressing all of the two millions of visitors it receives annually. Alhambra is formed of several palaces, museums, Moorish architecture, lush gardens with amazing fountains and cool alleys, and relaxing patios. The Nasrid palaces and Carol Vs Renaissance Palace are among the most beautiful and the most popular monuments of the complex. The Nasrid palaces are remarkable examples of Moorish skill, as the architectural style and the decorations are absolutely amazing. The other parts of the complex, Alcazar and Generalife, are also very popular among tourists. It is a pity that this beauty could have been lost, as it has been left into ruin for several decades. However, its potential was observed by the French forces who occupied the region during the cruel Peninsular War and restoration started ever since. The restoration work was of such a quality that Alhambra was very close to being selected among the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Perhaps the beauty of Alhambra is maximized by the beauty of its surroundings; the Sierra Nevada Mountains which guard Granada with their peaks offer spectacular views. If you visit Alhambra, sacrifice a couple of your hours to go to Granada: the Renaissance Cathedral, where Ferdinand and Isabella were buried, is also worth visiting.
