The Dacotah Prairie Museum In South Dakota - A Great Vacation And Travel Destination

The Dacotah Prairie Museum got its start back in 1938 and quickly amassed a great deal of items for the collection

. The museum moved from location to location for some time before finally settling in 1970. There are many things to see at the museum thanks to the many donors who donated items for the museum or loaned them for a specific collection. During the 1980s and 1990s the museum continued to grow and establish itself.

During the last decade the Dacotah Prairie Museum has really come a long way. The historic building where it resides will be restored and the museums mission is to fund itself through donations, grants, and the like.

If you happen to be traveling in South Dakota you will definitely want to stop and learn a little more about the history and culture of the area at the Dacotah Prairie Museum. The gallery is open from 9 am until 8 pm on Tuesday and from 9 am until 5 pm Wednesday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday the museum is only open from 1 pm until 4 pm and the office hours are 8 am until 5 pm all week long.

This is a great family outing because there is no admission. You can take the time to learn a little more about the history of South Dakota and the people who lived there without having to pay anything in admission. Since it is completely free you will definitely want to check it out. Donations are accepted, but not required.

The Dacotah Prairie Museum is not a destination that you would likely plan to visit all on its own, unless you live nearby. However, if you are traveling anywhere near the Dacotah Prairie Museum then you will certainly want to take the time and energy to take it out. The collection is actually quite amazing and you will find some things you may not have seen or heard of before. Its definitely an educational place to visit and great for families with children.
