. Practically gone are our traditional ways of playing, shopping, working, and being entertained. Computers play a huge role in our lives and we've become dependent on how they function. There are criminal minds out there who take advantage of this technology and often use it against us. Spyware, a program designed to steal information, is an example of a sinister program.

It's one of the most dangerous programs that are infiltrating our computers today. It's attached to the myriad of software we download on a yearly basis instead of seeping into the system like a virus. This is the way in which Spyware gets into our computer and, once there, it is very difficult to eradicate.

Spyware sells personal information it has collected to third parties that have paid for its use once it has been integrated into the computer system. The passwords, keystrokes, and websites visited can be captured and it can obtain what it needs to make millions of dollars from companies who pay them for information. This information is then turned against us as third parties tailor their marketing messages based on what, where and for what we have been shopping.

If your computer has been infiltrated by Spyware, the signs include pop-ups when you are on and offline, occasional freezing of your computer, and slower running system.

If you do detect Spyware on your computer, you are wise to purchase Spyware scanning software from a reputable dealer. Do not by any means download such software from online resources offering free software; some software that promises to rid your computer from Spyware actually installs it instead.

When it comes to Spyware, prevention is the best thing you can do. Be wary of the websites you visit and do not download any software from sites that you do not know to be completely reputable.
