In Kolkata, two big realty companies-Merlin and Siddha is coming with new projects featuring serviced apartments. They are also designing studio flats. The Jain Group in Kolkata is also coming with service apartment projects in Rajarhat.

A studio or serviced apartment in Kolkata is usually available between sizes of 500 square feet to 1000 square feet. These apartments have amenities like food, sweeper, laundry, grocery shop etc. Kitchen in these apartments are either in a corner of the central room or in another separate room.

Realty experts cited reasons for the sudden surge of serviced apartments in Kolkata. The rising number of Information technology professionals and setting up of more service-oriented industries raised the demand. The erratic work schedules and fat pay packages have driven the demand for such types of apartments.

Another reason why these apartments are coming up is the fact that professionals from other cities and countries are coming to stay in the city for only two three years. Most of them are on work contract and do not want to settle in Kolkata. For such people, studio apartments are the ideal option. The best part of these apartments-studio or service apartments are that they are available on rental or ownership basis.

Siddha Group of Kolkata is constructing studio apartment project named Xanadu in Rajarhat. The managing director of this group said that mostly young professionals prefer to stay in these apartments. This groups will help offer 340 studio apartments that will have service facility

The Merlin Group has also constructed studio, serviced apartments in D H Road, and named it Merlin Green. They have constructed 100 studio apartments in Kolkata and are planning to do more in the future.

Some builders though believe that the growth and development of studio and serviced apartments will have to wait in Kolkata. The floating population in the city is less as compared to other cities like Bangalore, Delhi or Mumbai.

The residential and the commercial sector both are equally instilled in the city with all the modern facilities required. From the education sector to the job industry, Kolkata has all the fields proportionally developed, with one complimenting in others growth.
