The Difference A Floor Can Make
When buying a home you may not consider how the flooring of that home will make you
feel you may not think about or check out the integrity of the floor before signing the lease. You may be so excited over the space, maybe the backyard, the kitchen, living room; maybe there are more bathrooms than you hoped. But what about the floor, yes, it is at the bottom of your feet and you walk all over it, but it doesnt deserve to be walked all over it deserves more than that. What happens when you move in lease signed, nothing mentioned about the flooring, then your move say a baby grand into the living room and you never noticed the rotting floors and then you end up with a huge hole in the floor of your new home. Have you ever thought about the possibility of not having a floor in your room?
When I was a kid I remember going to one of my friends houses, the wood had eventually rotted in the attic and this is where her room was, there was a hole in the middle of the floor. Obviously she didnt sleep in there till it was fixed, but it wasnt fixed immediately, a rotted floor wasnt something they thought was going to happen. I just remember looking into that hole, and it was weird, you couldnt see what was under the hole, the room underneath wasnt in the house, it must have been a storage, or wall area, anyways, to this day I remember thinking the hole in her room was like the hole in the ground in the movie The Gate. Scared the bejesus out of me! I could not imagine having a home without a floor!
So like I said, yes you walk all over your floor, you put thousands of pounds on it without even blinking, but it deserves better. It deserves maintenance, it deserves care, and it deserves common sense. Take my mother, I love her to death, but she has all the heavy things in her kitchen and living room in one corner of the room. It just doesnt make sense, to have an entire room completely open and all the heavy things in the same spot and to make matters worse, the two rooms are connected and all the heavy items are all in the same corner. That poor part of the floor is doing an awful lot of work!
So if you dont want to imagine a home without a floor, than take care of what you have, and keep up with maintenance, repairs and when needed, replacement before it is too late. Check with your local lumber yard, there are many very strong woods out there perfect for indoors and outdoors, ones with natural moisture resistance and pest resistance, with resistance from pet or shoe scratches. Perfect for your home all you need to do is the research, buy the right wood and take care of it the way it takes care of you!
