. It seems that with every new development in technology, we lose a little bit of the humanity and genuine compassion that makes us human. The result is that so many people live with sadness and loneliness nowadays and there appears to be little that can be done about it.
Sadness and loneliness are often intertwined, and most people therefore confuse one with the other. The fact of the matter is however that sadness and loneliness are two distinctly separate emotions, with each possibly having different causes and effects. They can also have different effects on humans with regard to how they feel and even how their body functions during periods of loneliness and sadness.
Sadness is an emotional state that may occur with disappointment, tragedy, or stress. It may also be considered an emotion arising from the absence of happiness or fulfillment. A person who is sad may feel dejected or depressed, and the negative emotions can have a significant effect on daily routines and life in general. Although most people feel sad from time to time, the condition can be chronic in certain predisposed people.
Sadness may also result from separation or the death of a partner, in which case the line between sadness and loneliness may become blurred. In fact, many of the symptoms exhibited by people who are sad are similar to the emotions felt by the lonely, which is why it can be difficult to tell them apart. The key difference lies in the causes and circumstances of each emotion.
Loneliness is most often characterized by a sense of isolation and seclusion from society, and the person suffering from it may feel that no one cares for him or her at all. In a romantic relationship, partners that are separated from each other either temporarily or for the long-term may feel a considerable degree of loneliness until they are reunited with each other. In many such situations, even the presence of friends and family members will do little to ease the pain of loneliness, and only the return of the relationship to normal can lift the emotional strain.
In people who are sad, loneliness is a common concern. However it is important to note that the two emotions are not necessarily tied in with each other. While you don't necessarily have to be lonely to be sad, loneliness almost never occurs without a degree of sadness involved. Simply put: it is possible for a person to be sad without feeling lonely, but it is uncommon for a person to feel loneliness without being sad.
Sadness and loneliness are usually minor concerns that can easily be solved by socializing with other people or engaging in a pleasurable activity. However, there is a risk that sadness and loneliness can degenerate into full-blown depression. When that happens, the person affected may have to seek the aid of a professional therapist in order to prevent the condition from worsening.
