The Different Methods Of Making Soap

Soap making is recently making a noise as one of the hobbies that many engage in

. Simply because this activity will provide fun and enjoyment and aside from that, the end product, which is the soap, can be used personally or can even be given to family and friends.

If you are into crafts and you enjoy creating things with your hand, you can try making soap and feel the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment immediately after making one. Soap is something that we all use; hence, unlike other creative hobbies wherein the end product is just ornamental, engaging in soap making activity will allow you to create something useful with the added benefit of relieving your stress and calming your senses.

In preparation for making soap, it is necessary for you to be aware of the various methods in making soap in order for you to know the right way that will best match your skills. The different methods in making soap are the following: cold process, hot process, re-batching, and melt and pour.

The cold process in making soap is one of the more complicated processes considering that it involves actually creating soap from scratch and the step-by-step procedures should be followed to the letter. There are three basic ingredients needed if you are going to use this process to make soap, that is, lye, oil and water.

Lye is also known as caustic soda, which is a corrosive and scathing strong base. This chemical should be handled with care and caution. Therefore, if you will do the cold process, you should be very careful in handling chemicals and following the procedure, and you should wear the proper protective outfit and gear such as laboratory gown, gloves, and goggles.

On the other hand, the hot process soap making method is easier and trouble free even if the process involves all the soap ingredients to be placed in a pot and heated with constant stirring until the soap goes through the various stages. If the soap becomes a consistent gel-like structure with a waxy texture, it is now possible to add your desired scent and color. Finally after mixing every ingredient, you can now pour the soap mixture into the soap molds.

The most simple and probably the easiest among the soap making techniques is the melt and pour method. The name suggests what to do in this method. You just simply melt the readily available blocks of soap in the double boiler or microwave. After that, pour the mixture into soap molds to solidify. Addition of the desired fragrances, essential oils and other soap features (like the addition of oatmeal or Rose petals) is possible during the melting process.

And lastly, the rebatching method which is also an easy way to create soap, considering that it is similar to the melt and pour method. In this soap making method, you just need to melt grated ready-made soaps with a little water. Scent, oils, colors and your other desired ingredient could be added while melting the grated soaps. Thereafter, you can already pour this into soap molds to set.
