The Dirty Picture Music Review

Theres something of a spillover from Milan Luthrias last outing with a music composer in the soundtrack of The Dirty Picture

. Atleast two songs in this new film bear a striking resemblance to two tracks from his last hit, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.

Pritam was the composer for OUATIM, and Vishal-Shekhar are the duo on TDP soundtrack, and in its two songs, interchangeable Honeymoon Ki Raat, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan sounds like Parda (also previously sung by Sunidhi) - and its only fair to deduce this one too will be set at a bar where the sexy siren will bump and grind to seduce a gentelman - wooing him with a bottle of Vat 69 carelessly balanced between her puff-powdered knees. Both the songs, when not a throwback to retro, are eminently forgettable homages.

The other song, Ishq Sufiyana, tunes in on Pee Loon (OUATIM) to such a degree of semblance that though the song could be different, the picturisation reminds you of Pee Loon, harking back on Milans style. In two versions (Kamal Khan, Sunidhi Chauhan) this is the song from TDP which is likely to linger. Isnt that how it was for Mohit Chauhans Pee Loon too? An arrangement so pleasantly flat, so staid, it could run on loop and play forever.

Shreya Ghoshal and Rana Mazumder (doing a RDB voice) in Twinkle Twinkle gloat on Silk Smithas silky thumka that has everyone from Jack & Jill to Humpty Dumpty falling and tumbling for her favours. One genuine koschan (question) though - 'Humpty ghayal hua, Dumpty pagal hua,' Shreya sings. Humpty Dumpty was 1 person. Lyricist skipped nursery?

Shreyas nakhras in Oh La La, matched in vigour with Bappi Das lan is TDPs rossogulla of a song. Shreyas (ooh-aah-uff oh) susurration aside, never has the chirruping of chorus girl refrain (oui maa, ha-aah) been this musically sweet to ones pinched nerves. Bappi Da bouncing his syllables off ooh-la-la as if hes already skating on narangis and mausambis declaiming the girl he is singing to is a boombaat in other words, a neka if this was a Bong-o-song, is cult classic material.

The Dirty Picturesoundtrack is adulterating. Do not try stunts at home. Play the record, and scratch sparingly.

The Dirty Picture music launch is slated to take place on Nov 4 at Inorbit Mall, Malad, Mumbai at 6pm. The star cast of the film will attend the function to interact with fans and entertain with live performance. Here's your chance to meet the stars, its a free for all event. Don't miss.
