The E-cigarette - Behind The False Information
In only a couple of short years the electronic cigarette has managed to make quite an impression
. Among the controversial claims and reports from large health organisations and false information from leading pharmaceutical and tobacco companies the e cigarette continues to evolve and spread and aid thousands of people beat their dependence on cigarettes. Behind the talk and false information what is the honest truth about the electronic cigarette, is it really risk-free and could it be used to help people stop smoking cigarettes.
The cigarette has over 4,000 known chemicals in it and many thousands more that we have not been able to identify, when compared to those numbers the electronic cigarette is a very basic device. Essentially nicotine dissolved in liquid is vaporised in an atomising chamber and the resultant mist is inhaled by the user. People are provided with a nicotine hit whilst experiencing a simulation of the smoking experience. Many critics have stated that we don't know enough about the electronic cigarette but as some experts have pointed out we know more about what is in an ecig than we do the cigarette.
It shouldn't be forgotten though that the purpose of the electronic cigarette is to provide nicotine to the user, and that nicotine itself is extremely addictive. It is worth noting though that it is not actually the nicotine that causes all of the health problems associated with smoking, it is in the fact the combustion. The e cigarette delivers the nicotine without the means of combustion and there are just a few substances as opposed to the chemical cocktail that gets supplied with a cigarette.
Electronic cigarette makers use propylene glycol to generate the vapor that imitates the smoke from a cigarette. Even though it is generally regarded as being a safe substance is to fair to say that the long-term side effects, if any, of inhaling this substance are unknown. It is a widely used substance found in many everyday products including cosmetics and many foods. It is often found in toothpaste and is the principal component in smoke machine 'smoke'.
The question that everyone wants to know though is can it successfully be used as an aid to help people stop smoking. For the manufacturers and sellers of electronic cigarettes to tell you this they would need to have all kinds of legal documentation and licenses, which they don't have right now. In such a situation then you have to rely on your judgment or seek out the opinions of those that have actually used one. It stands to reason that if you were smoking and you replaced your cigarette with an electronic cigarette then to all intensive purposes you are no longer smoking. The switch is clearly not successful for every person, but judging from the thousands of testimonials you can find on the web then it obviously is for many.
It is unfortunate that some of the findings from the bigger institutions like the FDA can't be relied upon as specialists in the field have pointed out the bad testing methods and ridiculed the conclusions, some even going so far as to call what they have done propaganda. Because of the perceived trust in such results some countries like Denmark immediately voted to ban the product. As more independent research has become available more considered viewpoints are being formed. The British government even went as far as to publicly state that they're eager to explore the possibilities afforded by the electronic cigarette given it's prospects for saving lives.
So it seems that the e cigarette is a healthier alternative to smoking, a way to quit smoking and it is actually a lot cheaper than buying cigarettes. The decision to try one though is yours and yours alone. You must understand that legislation is limited and long term testing is not available and so you must weigh up the good and bad for yourself. But as Professor Michael Siegel, associated Professor at the Boston University of Public Health has stated - Inhaling nicotine cannot be nearly as dangerous as inhaling nicotine plus thousands of other chemicals, including more than 40 carcinogens."
