The Eagles Palace welcomes the Ukrainian president to Mount Athos

Along with approximately 70% of the population of Ukraine, Mr. Yanukovych is also an Orthodox Christian and so is almost the entire population of Greece. This is not the first time that the president of Ukraine has visited this sacred place.

Mount Athos also known as Holy Mountain has been blessed by Virgin Mary and hence it is also called the garden of Theotokos. It is a sacred settlement in the peninsula of Halkidiki in Greece only accessed by boat. Entrance is only allowed to males and only after obtaining a special written permission called "diamonitirio". The settlement consists of 20 monasteries and 12 hermitages (areas of asceticism). It is administered by the representatives of the 20 monasteries which form the Holy Community. The president's visit and transfer to the monasteries was organized by Eagles Palace.
